Individual and Couple Psychotherapy,
Counseling and Consulting

I studied and worked in Europe and the US, in a career that has spanned over three decades and two continents.
I studied at the University of Torino, Italy, and the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford in England. I moved to the US where I completed my doctoral studies at Wayne State University and completed my training in Adult Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute in Michigan, where I lived and practiced for many years.
The experiences I gained from my studies in different countries nurtured and strengthened my discipline and love of knowledge of the human mind, as well as my appreciation of the many ways in which different cultures affect and shape our beliefs, behaviors and emotions. From my many years of studying and practicing as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, I have achieved an ever deepening understanding of the human journey, with all its suffering, challenges and rewards, but I also have, more importantly, acquired an appreciation and trust in the human ability to be resourceful and resilient. Developing resiliency is now the main focus of my work with individuals and couples.
I live in Arizona where I have a private psychotherapy practice working with individuals and couples who want to achieve their goals of living more fulfilled lives. I am a regular blogger on various psychological topics. My book, Couples at the Crossroads: Five Steps to Finding Your Way Back to Love that I co-wrote with Susan Schwartz, PhD, summarizes my clinical work of many years and reflects my approach to dealing with relational problems. In my psychotherapy work, I came to appreciate not only what is wrong with individuals and couples who seek my services, but also, and more importantly, what are their inner resources. Everybody, including those who, on the surface, seem to have few inner strengths, actually have the potentials to grow and succeed, if favorable conditions are provided to them that encourage and facilitate their growth in ways that lead to the development of increased self confidence, success and personal and interpersonal fulfillment in their lives.
My clients are high functioning individuals like you, looking for ways to understand the areas that cause and maintain difficulties in their personal and interpersonal lives, so that they can expand their horizons, enhance their relationships, find deeper meanings in life and love, and create for themselves and their partners more attuned, insightful and balanced lives and relationships.
